When you’re talking about Reggae, most people immediately think of the master of Reggae – Bob Marley. And if you know anything about Bob Marley, then you’ve likely heard of the largest and most popular Reggae festival in Texas – the Austin Reggae Fest! But what is the Reggae Fest all about, and how can you get involved? There are a number of things that you should know if you’re going to be attending the Austin Reggae Fest.

What it Is

The Austin Reggae Fest is, for all intensive purposes, a time that is set aside specifically to enjoy the wonder that is Reggae music! Reggae music has been around for a very long time, and many people enjoy listening to this type of music – even people who primarily listen to another type of music. There is just something about Reggae music that gets the body moving, and most people who enjoy Reggae music aren’t surprised to learn that there are festivals in almost all of the states in the continental United States.

The Austin Reggae Festival, however, is one of the largest and the most popular festivals to celebrate this type of music in the entire state of Texas, which, considering the size of Texas, is definitely saying something. This festival treats people who go to it to two full days of live music, but it not only allows Reggae lovers to celebrate the music that they love, but it helps a great cause as well.

The Cause

Attendees to the Austin Reggae Festival not only are able to enjoy their music, but they’re able to help feed the hungry. The Austin Reggae Festival has a wonderful history of helping to feed the hungry by making sure that all of the food that they get goes to the Capital Area Foodbank. Attendees are asked to bring two cans of food. At the gate, this food is gathered together and is collected in a large truck. At the end of the festival, the truck is brought to the Capital Area Food Bank and is given to them, allowing them to feed hundreds of families just thanks to this one event.

The Austin Reggae Festival is held at Auditorium Shores, which is at 950 West Riverside Drive in Austin. If you’re planning on attending, here are a few tips that should help. First, make sure that you have all of the supplies that you’ll need while you’re there, including sunscreen, water, and all of the essentials. While you can get these essentials at the festival, you may have to pay more money for them than you want to. Also, make sure that you are ready for a few very long days. There are lots of people who attend the festival and it can be easy to be crushed in the throng of people, so most people don’t recommend bringing children when you attend the festival. Go prepared and bring a few cans of food and you’re sure to enjoy the Reggae Festival!
